Office Hours: 13:30-15:30 Tuesday or by appointmentCourse Description : This course is an introduction to behavioral statistics, designed primarily for social science students. As much as possible, we will emphasize "social" examples because most of you are concentrating in sociology.
Since most social scientists--including me--are not mathematicians, the theoretical derivation of statistical formulae will not be dealt with; nor will statistical procedures requiring knowledge beyond addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root extraction, and basic algebra. In short, the purposes of the course are to acquaint social science students with the logic of social statistics, the computation and interpretation of statistical methods. You will also be introduced to the creation, management and statistical manipulation of data files using SPSS(statistical package for social science).Prerequisite: Introduction to Sociology or History of Sociology

Overview
This course aims to provide opportunities to practice social research, using qualitative research methods. It is divided into four parts: research design, data collection, data analysis, and writing paper. Students will develop their own research questions, collect data in the field, and write research outcomes.
As a result of taking the course, students should be able to: (a) understand of procedures of research; (b) design research, collect and analyze data; (c) write research papers; and (d) critically evaluate research outcomes. Although the class is given in English, you may write your assignments and research paper in English or in Korean.
