Geoffrey Pleyers is a FNRS Research Director and Professor of Sociology at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. He is the current president of the International Sociological Association. He has been a visiting professor at 24 universities in Europe, Latin America, and India.

His research focuses on global studies, social movements, youth, sociology of religion and Latin America. He has authored four books, including “Alter-Globalization. Becoming Actors in the Global Age” (Polity, 2011) and “El cambio nunca es lineal” (“Change is never linear”, CLACSO, 2024), and edited 21 books or journal special issues, including “Social Movements and Politics in the Pandemic” (Bristol University Press, 2022). Recent articles in English include “The pandemic is a battlefield. Social movements and solidarity during the COVID-19 lockdown” (Journal of Civil Society, 2020); “For a global sociology of social movements. Beyond methodological globalism and extractivism” (Globalizations, 2024) and a series of texts on the renewal of global sociology (“Global Sociology as a Renewed Global Dialogue”; “Global Sociology: Four transformations” & “Global Sociology in Times of Polycrisis”).
